In 1890 Eliza Jane Rodda started making Cornish clotted cream in her farmhouse kitchen here in the heart of Cornwall. It was an instant hit with locals and she was soon ‘exporting’ it all the way to England, where top London food shops couldn’t get enough of this sumptuous Cornish delicacy.
Over 125 years on, we’re still on the same site and crafting it the same way, by gently baking rich local cream until it’s thick, silky and thoroughly dollopable. Which is why it’s been awarded Protected Designation of Origin status, along with the likes of champagne and Parma ham. For chefs and lovers of fine foods, it’s a guarantee of quality and authenticity.
Nicholas Rodda, Managing Director, says “As a fifth generation family business, we believe that supporting local farming families is key to everything that we do. You can’t make the best cream without the best milk, so we have carefully selected farmers who take real pride in what they produce.
We take the time to build close relationships with our farmers that are based on trust and team spirit. Red Tractor is that additional assurance for all concerned that best practices are being used and we believe benefits, farmers, Rodda’s and most importantly our consumers. Everything that we do is about quality of product, service and herdsmanship and Red Tractor helps us to achieve this.”
