"All Red Tractor’s 78,000 farmers are independently inspected to make sure they meet our quality standards"

Traceability

How does Assured Food Standards ensure that the Red Tractor Logo is only used on the correct products?

The simple answer is traceability. Food carrying our logo must meet exacting standards at every critical stage in the chain of production. We don’t just take this for granted. There are systems and checks to prove it.

The Red Tractor logo can only be used under licence. In signing their licensing agreements food packing companies agree that they will only use the logo on food that is eligible to carry it. They also agree to keep production records that will prove this. And they allow us access to their premises and records to check that everything is in order.

The visits our independent inspectors make and the series of checks they carry out enable us to trace all Red Tractor products to their farms of origin. This means peace of mind for the public – we make it our business to know exactly where your food comes from and to ensure that our standards are met all the way from the farm to the supermarket shelf.

Traceability is a painstaking business and it’s something we take very seriously. Click on the links below for some examples about how it works in practice in the case of chicken, dairy products and fruit and vegetables.
