Red Tractor and Food Service
It’s not just in supermarkets where you’ll find demand for Red Tractor assurance. Our research shows that consumers looking for quality, affordable food in the shops are increasingly looking for the same assurances when eating out.
Since we introduced the module in 2009, we’ve seen a number of the UK’s leading food service businesses become licensed with over 2000 catering outlets now serving Red Tractor assured food every day. The Red Tractor on your menu shows your customers that your ingredients have been produced responsibly and are traceable back to independently inspected farms in the UK.
Thinking about joining Red Tractor as a licensee?
If you’re a food service company Red Tractor has the power to make your business more profitable by giving your customers peace of mind about where your ingredients come from and how they’ve been produced. See a summary of some of the key benefits below.
Benefits to your business
If you become part of the Red Tractor scheme you’ll be licensed to use the Red Tractor logo on your menus, placemats, posters, advertising space, tender documents, APL, website, emails, social media – in short, all your marketing literature. The Red Tractor logo is an independent endorsement of the origin of the assured ingredients in your dishes.
Please note you do not have to sell only Red Tractor products, for example you can use non-assured gammon and Red Tractor sausages in the same menu but you must be clear about which product is Red Tractor assured.
Widely Recognised Brand
The Red Tractor logo has become the trusted symbol for responsibly produced British food, with a recent survey highlighting that 73% of UK primary shoppers look for the Red Tractor.* Therefore using the logo will help you connect with your customers and strengthen your own brand integrity.
Transparency of your supply chain
With transparency of how food is produced being high up on the consumer’s agenda, it is important to be able to demonstrate that the ingredients you source come from trusted sources. As a licensee you’ll be part of food supply chain committed to responsible food production standards, and your business will be subject to annual traceability checks, at no extra cost – an independent check to show your due diligence.
Guarantee of British Origin
The Red Tractor logo with the Union Jack provides an independent guarantee of origin. Use it to highlight your commitment to sourcing food that’s been sourced from Red Tractor farms in the UK – from farm to fork.
Red Tractor Assurance have a very small marketing team but are always on hand to help you through the process of applying and to help make sure you get the most out of your licence. You’ll receive a Welcome Pack including a marketing tool-kit to support you in promoting your Red Tractor assured products, a Red Tractor plaque to go up on your wall and a monthly newsletter letting you know about marketing events run by Red Tractor and our stakeholders.

How to become licensed food service
- Source Red Tractor assured food or drink – this must be from a licensed Red Tractor supplier and must be supplied packed with the Red Tractor logo
- Complete the application form and sign the licence agreement which is provided by Red Tractor Assurance – here you must detail your products and suppliers, controls on food safety and traceability, your buying procedures/ policies and how you intend to use the Red Tractor logo in your business
- Pay the licence fee – this is dependent on business complexity and annual retail sales value of your Red Tractor products
- If using the logo for the first time (on menus, brochures, promotional activity etc.), all new artwork must be sent to Red Tractor Assurance for approval
All wholesalers/ distributors and food service outlets are integrity checked annually through an audit by an independent assessor. Here checks are carried out on quantities purchased, buying practices and segregation/ traceability systems to ensure the logo is only used on assured products.
